Merry Christmas my friends

For the first time since 1971 (according to CBC Radio) Canada is having a white Christmas from coast to coast to coast (some of us like to mention the Arctic coast too). While that means it's cold and the poor Vancouverites are learning how to crash their cars in three inches of snow - it's rather lovely.

The other night we soaked in Ainsworth hot springs in the dark. It's a natural spring, with the water flowing out of a cave into pools - nice anytime of year, but especially lovely in winter. It was about minus 10 Celsius and snowflakes were drifting lazily down. There was a blanket of winter stillness covering all, and the 20 or so people soaking in the pools seemed to be whispering to honour that. It seemed so far away from the bustle of Christmas and the worries that are so dominent for so many just now.

If Christmas symbolizes the arrival of light into darkness, the hope for innocence and goodness to prevail... the whispering of humans as they gather to honour what's sacred - then may this Christmas please bring us a little closer to respecting all life and pulling together on our fragile planet.

Best wishes to each of you - whatever Christmas means (or doesn't mean) to you.

Merry Christmas Gary! Best wishes to you and yours.

I hope that you and yours have a wonderful Christmas, Gary! May 2009 bring you wonderful things.

Gary, here's wishing you and your family a Merry Christmas. :)

Merry Christmas!

The quiet hot springs experience sounds WONDERFUL!

And I second your beautiful wishes for the respect of all life.

i've been to Ainsworth hotsprings quite a number of times..... beautiful spot. i have a friend who sometimes lets me use her cabin in New Denver..... isn't there a castle-like home near Ainsworth made of embalming fluid bottles mortared together like bricks? on that cheery note, merriest of christmases, Gary, and all good things in 2009.

Thanks all.

Yeah Gfid, on the east shore of Kootenay Lake is the Glass House, made entirely from embalming fluid bottles (and lived in by its owner for years when first built). http://www.kootenayrockies.com/attractions/glasshouse.html

Weird roadside attractions - could be a blog topic!

Merry Xmas, Gary.

I've never had the experience of going to a hot spring. I'll make it a goal to go sometime soon.

Wishing you all the best, Gary! Best of luck and much love to you and yours this coming year.

Welcome Aphrodite. There's great all female jazz band here in BC called the Mighty Aprodite (I like it).

Best to you for 2009 Cheri and Nova, come visit sometime and we'll take you to a hot spring!

Happy New Year, Gary and happy trails.

Hi Gary. I thought I might be late getting here to wish you a Happy New Year, but I should have known I'd be right on time. And what Susan said about happy trails, too.
