The bird feeder saga...

We have lots of hummingbirds at our feeders this year - wonderful, aggressive little birds. They hover in place like little frenzied helicopters of the bird world. Here are two photos of the feeder today with one visitor. This is followed by a photo of a finch, who visits and enjoys a little sweetened water like his tiny cousins do.

Beautiful to see Gary. :) I love how you've described the hummingbirds.

Excellent! You inspire me to put up a feeder as well!!
I only get occasional visits to the bunch of flowers we have. Cool pictures Gary.

And I fell asleep and dreamed
I dreamed I was in a Hollywood movie
And that I was the star of the movie
This really blew my mind, the fact that me,
an overfed, long-haired leaping gnome
should be the star of a Hollywood movie

But there I was, I was taken to a place, the hall of the mountain kings
I stood high upon a mountain top, naked to the world
In front of every kind of girl, there was
black ones, round ones, big ones, crazy ones...

The colors are fantastic. Beautiful.

Bohemian - odd what hummingbird photos will pull out of fellow bloggers!

Great photos, Gary. I LOVE hummingbirds. My grandfather used to grow some vines that attracted them, and we would sit & watch them feed. Those were ruby-throated ones.

that 'Bohemian' song was originally from Burton and "War" - too long ago to remember, but still shadowy there...

Hummingbirds probably evolved recently, as there are no fossils but with physical similarities of their DNA to Swifts.

I think its likely birds in general evolved from the Dinosaurs.

The deep oceans currents are still guided by stars
As the bird’s migration are white dots from afar
The earth is refreshed as they soar through the air
The joys of new freedoms for birds without care

Great pictures and post

Hey I remember that Eric Burdon song to now Zee. Kind of a spoken word thing in parts. Is it the one with "Kill the something and drink the wine.."

Lindsay, thanks for the hummingbird info. It was unlikely, except in my imagnination, that they evolved larger from mosquitos or moths!
