Requiem for a little dog

Our little dog Sasha died last night. He was a 16 year old Chihuahua and in spite of being blind, deaf, mostly mute and rather wobbly - he brought joy to us and pulled compassion out of those who met him (including lots of teenagers).

In the past couple of weeks, he stopped eating, then walking, then drinking water - and finally stopped wagging his tail. Two nights ago we gave him a warm bath; last night we put him to bed and this morning he was dead. He seems to have gone in his sleep - he hadn't moved.

The photo is from some months ago.

Here's to doggies everywhere... and the love they bring.
Comments:
Gary, I'm sorry to hear he's gone. I'm glad he didn't suffer. Please accept my condolences.

Tiny protector, spirits passed over
Still of night to a doggies blue yonder
Blue moon beams from blue beyond
Companions a star to shine from afar

Sorry, Gary. 16 years is a very long time to get to know someone.

I am sorry for your loss Gary. May Sasha rest in peace..

Gary, I'm so sorry. It's hard to lose a beloved pet, even when the loss is expected.

sad to hear of your loss, gary.

I know it hurts like hell. Been there and had to deal with that hurt. Bless her heart. Sounds to me like you gave her all the love a little dog can hold. That is really all we can give them, a happy life and lots of love. You did that for your friend.

Sorry to hear about your loss Gary, keep your chin up.

Gary. I can only imagine what you're all feeling and going through right now. The loss is profound. Please know that I'm thinking of you and Sasha. I know he's happy at the Rainbow Bridge. Take care.

I am so sorry.

My old dog Tigger is 12y now, she raised my children with me. I was just scratching her ears looking at the grey around her face. I can only imagine the pain of losing Sasha - I think about it when I look at Tigger.
